Wasenhaus is the brainchild of Alex Götze and Christoph Wolber, two Germans who met in Beaune while chasing their shared obsession with Burgundy. After years of working at top domaines like de Montille, Leflaive, and Bernard van Berg, they returned to Baden—just a short drive from Burgundy—to make wines of extraordinary finesse. Their Pinot Noirs are among the most compelling in Germany, with a clarity and elegance that rivals top Burgundy, while their Weissburgunders are equally revelatory. Farming just four hectares organically with minimal intervention, Wasenhaus produces tiny quantities of wines that are, quite simply, stunning—and increasingly hard to find.
A Pinot Noir grown on limestone clay soil in Kirchhofen and Pfaffenweiler. Grown on steep slopes with a west orientation and worked mainly manual, the vines are French and German clones w/ some selection massale. Fermentation with 40% whole clusters, in the beginning as a carbonic maceration and afterwards in a classic open vat fermentation with some punch downs. Aged in mainly used French oak barrels for 16 months. is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from the Kanzel vineyard in the Baden region of Germany.
