THE WINE
Vineyard Profile
Vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet. This village is mentioned in 886 as in Cassaneas “in the oak woods.” It is Latin Cassanea “oak grove, “oak tree wood” translated literally from the Gallic Cassanos. The oak tree had a symbolic and sacred value for the Gauls; oak trees were linked to the ritual practices and religious beliefs of the Druids. Until 1879, the village was known as Chassagne-le-Haut. After that it was entitled to append the village name with the Grand Cru Climat: Montrachet.
- Total Vineyard Area: 9 acres/3.7 ha
- Soil: Light clay
Harvest Notes
- Hand harvested
- Fermented in 10 – 30% new, primarily François Frères French oak barrels using only indigenous yeast
- Aged 14 – 15 months in barrel with lees stirring
- Bottled without fining or filtering
Winemaker's Notes
Aromas of pear, toasted nuts, white flowers and citrus oil. The satiny and ample, medium to full-bodied palate is lively with tangy acids and a seamless, elegant profile.
