Christoph Hoch Hollenburger Gruner Veltliner, Niederosterreich, Austria

Gruner Veltliner from terraced vineyards around Hollenburg with Hollenburger Konglomerat and Loess situated between 250 – 300 meters altitude. 100% fermented and matured in big oak casks. Hoch treats each barrel as an experiment, some of the wine has a maceration on the skins, some goes through malo, some does not. The blend is 40% from the most recent vintage, 40% the previous vintage, and 20% three vintages ago. The youngest vintages gives the wine freshness and vivacity, the middle vintage body, and the last vintage is normally the most tannic and structured. The combination gives the most complete and complex expression of Hollenburg, irrespective of vintage.
