If you've talked to me about wine in the last six months, you know I am fully obsessed with the SLO Coast wines from Scar of the Sea, Lady of the Sunshine and Phelan-Farm. I will most definitely be drinking something from one of these three, if not a little of each! The Scar of the Sea Pinot Noir was one of my go-to favorite Pinots last year, and after visiting them, that is even more the case! Mikey Giugni makes Scar of the Sea, Gina Giugni makes Lady of the Sunshine and together the couple organically farms Bassi vineyard in San Luis Obispo, California. The San Luis Obispo Bay, only 1.2 miles away, is visible from the sunny vineyard, which is nestled among the rolling green hills dotted with wildflowers. The proximity to the sea, the warm sunshine and the shifts in temperature, plus their intentionality make these wines so special. They have the right amount of fruit and brightness, with layers hibiscus, black tea, and spice. The end result is a wine that registers as lively and radiant, making it at the top of my list of wines I love right now. Mikey will be in town, pouring his wines at Baleine on Monday May 4th!! Be there or be square. - Kim Prokoshyn
