La Cerbaiola - Salvioni, Rosso di Montalcino 2022

From the iconic La Cerbaiola estate, Salvioni’s Rosso di Montalcino is a rare and refined expression of Sangiovese Grosso, crafted with the same care and precision as the estate’s legendary Brunello. The 20-hectare property lies just southeast of Montalcino at 420 meters above sea level, surrounded by woodland and overlooking the Val d’Orcia, with vistas of Pienza and San Quirico. Only four hectares are planted to vines, divided into three small parcels whose soils—ranging from chalky schist to stony marl—lend nuance and depth to the wine.

Every stage of production is done by hand, from rigorous pruning to ensure low yields, to painstaking grape selection at harvest. Fermentation occurs naturally, and aging in large Slavonian oak casks allows the purity of fruit and terroir to shine through. In years when both wines are made, only about 15,000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino are produced.

Elegant yet structured, this wine marries vibrant red cherry and wild herb aromas with a supple texture and fine-grained tannins. More than just a “second wine,” Salvioni’s Rosso is a luminous, terroir-driven reflection of La Cerbaiola—pure, balanced, and unmistakably Montalcino.
