The Hubert family owns Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours in Blaye and Château La Grolet in Bourg, two estates farmed to some of the highest standards in Bordeaux. Both are certified organic and biodynamic, and the vineyards form a striking oasis of greenery compared to much of the region. Set on slopes of clay over limestone, they produce wines of impressive concentration and firm, mineral structure.
This blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec is fermented with native yeasts, highlighting purity and place. The 2022 Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois is fuller-bodied than the excellent 2021, showing greater density and ripeness in what was a very strong vintage for Bordeaux.
Aromas of blackberry, cassis, and red currant lead the way, joined by hints of coffee, prune, and warm spice. On the palate, the wine is supple yet deep, with layered black fruit, chalky minerality, and a long, satisfying finish. Serve slightly cool alongside roast chicken, steak, or full-flavored cheeses.
